Benefits Of Organic Foods

It’s not everyday that a person has the chance to change the way that they eat. You might try to do so, become healthier and eat healthier but in a great many ways you will be thwarted in this desire. This is why the benefits of organic food can have a far reaching effect on you, more so than you might have thought.

Why do I say this? Because even though you might try to become healthy and change your way of living, it is extremely difficult to do so in many circumstances. With the advent of more and more organic foods onto the scene however, it becomes easier to hold to your desire to live a healthier lifestyle. Why? For the simple reason that your healthy eating habits become even healthier when they come in the guise of organic foods.

As you can see, the benefits of organic foods are many and you need only to scratch the surface to start finding them. As you dig deeper you will find there are more and more benefits of organic foods, some of which you might not even have thought about.

So what are the benefits of organic foods? Well, to begin with, organic foods are produced in such a way that there are no chemicals in the growing process or in the case of animals, the rearing process.

No chemicals are introduced into the mix and only natural fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides are used. In the case of farm animals, only organic feed is given to them, so you can be assured that when you get organic meats or milks and things that the animals too are reared according to organic standards.

There are also other benefits to organic food which includes the exclusion of genetically modified organisms (GMO). GMO’s to put it succinctly are foods which have had their genetic structure modified in some way or other.

While this might seem to yield many benefits in the field of agriculture by providing farmers with larger amounts of usable crops, no one still fully knows what the disadvantages are of modifying the genetic structure of living organisms. You need to look no further to find further such glaring deficits that science only found out about years after their regular and widespread usage, than to look at Lead and how bad we consider that to be.

To that extent, the benefits of organic food far outweigh the dubious goodness of non-organic foods, at least until the jury comes back in on that question. The only problem is the high cost of organic foods – the medical costs that you might incur upon seeing your monthly food bill after going organic might put you off the many benefits of organic food until such time as they become less expensive!

Organic Food Market

Although it took some time for organic foods per se to truly catch the attention of the general populace, the organic food market these days is a thriving industry and one that can only become bigger as the years progress and more and more people turn away from chemical enriched foods.

Of course not everyone cares about exactly what they eat or how it was produced, if they did we wouldn’t have had a need for a separate “organic food market”, would we? The fact remains however that some people do care, and although the number isn’t yet overwhelming, it is growing annually at healthy percentage.

This in turn paves the way to open up the organic food market even more. And this means that the prices of organic foods also come down, which is a heaven-sent opportunity really to garner more and more people to the side of organic foods.

Why? Simply because as the prices come down to something manageable, and the whole fad of being healthy, living healthy and eating healthy builds up slowly, more people will turn more willingly towards the organic food market than they might otherwise have done if the price tags on organic foods remained high.

This in turn will spur more farmers to go organic than otherwise would have, if there was only a small consumer base for the organic food market. And this in turn, will help to bring more organic food to the consumer.

It’s definitely a cycle and not a vicious one unless of course you’re a farmer who prefers the use of chemical pesticides over natural ones, artificial fertilizers over natural fertilizers, and who doesn’t mind that they are using genetically modified plants and seed stock as their crops.

It is also interesting to note that the organic food market doesn’t only encompass produce in the form of fruits and vegetables, but it only encompasses such things as dairy products, meats, fish, poultry, and processed foods as well.

This means that the production of organic foods is down not only to produce farmers, but also to livestock farmers and plants that generate processed foods. In fact, the spread of the organic food market doesn’t stop there. It goes on to encompass health food stores as well as grocery stores interested in selling organic foods, and specialty stores that deal only in organically grown, cultivated or managed foods.

And to truly understand how wide open the organic food market really is, all you need to is to look into pet stores and the items they are selling. Organic foods it seems, has spilled over into this area as well, and health conscious pet owners can now find organic pet foods littering the pet stores as well!

Organic Food Recipes

Although some people would like to go organic and lead a healthier lifestyle, they find themselves stopped by a few things. Among these little stumbling blocks in their paths to going organic, are things like the cost of organic foods, the ready unavailability of organic foods, as well as the little fact that they will also need to find organic food recipes to go with their new lifestyle.

This is in fact a major stumbling block for many people who balk at the thought of not only changing their eating and dietary lifestyles, but of also having to change a lifetime’s worth of cooking experience to accommodate their new healthy lifestyle.

The fact of the matter is that people will go to the trouble of finding organic food suppliers, and of buying their costlier organic meats, dairy and produce, but when they have to actually sit down and find organic food recipes to go along with everything they’ve done thus far, their enthusiasm starts to wane.

This is where people actually tend to go wrong and miss the point. There is no such thing as special organic food recipes just as there is no special method of preparing the foods you buy which are organic.

The whole point is not to have to slog away looking for organic food recipes, replacing the ones you already have and know how to cook well, but to make your entire lifestyle healthier, of which the use of the use of organic foods in your cooking endeavors being a large part.

The trick then to going organic and finding yourself cooking organic food recipes, is to use the same old recipes which you’ve been using thus far and transform them into something other than artery clogging, waistline expanding, sugar level increasing foods.

In other words, now that you’ve gone organic and are using organic foods in your life, you also need to make your cooking style a healthier one as well. This means that if you’re using what amounts to a gallon of fat or oil per day, you might want to cut down on it to almost nothing!

Of course any dietary changes that you make, if they are going to be extensive should be discussed with your physician as you will then be able to get a better picture of what proper changes you need to make. The same advice applies if you have an underlying medical condition which requires you to have a special diet.

Replacing your normal foods with organic foods is fine, but you will need to make sure that when you turn your normal everyday recipes into organic food recipes, that you don’t change your dietary habits in such a radical manner as to be harmful to you. If you’re careful and follow a sensible dietary plan, you won’t really have to make too many food-sacrifices if at all to offset your newly acquired organic food habits.

Organic Breads

Not everyone who likes to eat organic foods has the chance to do so on a daily basis. Most people will have to settle for the more mediocre fare of the same foods they have been eating for most of their lives. Other more fortunate people however, are able to enjoy organic foods on a more regular basis, and some of these people have also been blessed with the ability to bake, which gives rise (excuse the pun!) to organic breads.

Now f you’re wondering what on earth organic breads are, and whether they really do taste as if they were fresh sprung from the ground along with the carrots and the potatoes, there’s only one thing that I have to say, Ha! Organic breads don’t taste any different from your normal average everyday breads. In fact more than tasting different, people who eat organic breads and organic foods in general believe that they taste better to those of the normal non-organic, pesticide filled food varieties!

This is of course a hotly debated topic, because how can any one person truly accept what the taste buds of someone else are saying? They have to taste it for themselves and if they’re trying to compare the tastes of organically grown produce with that of conventionally grown produce there’s always bound to be some differences.

That aside however, organic breads taste the same as normal breads and they are made in the same manner as normal breads. The main difference lies in the ingredients used to make the organic breads. Only organic flour, butter etc would be used when making organic breads. Essentially the recipe stays the same, it’s only the ingredients, or rather the manner in which the ingredients were produced, that is changed.

“Organic” for those of you who are unaware of it, is a term, or a definition of a farming process which shuns conventional methods of farming. Things such as chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers are put away in favor of natural pesticides and fertilization methods. More over, genetically plant organisms are also rejected in the organic farming method. And in organic animal farming you will find that use of steroids and antibiotics is banned, and the animals receive only organic foods for themselves.

Therefore when someone tells you that they regularly bake organic breads, don’t stare at them as if they had just grown two heads. All they have done is to continue on with their normal baking routines substituting organic products where necessary to make the organic breads.

On the other hand, if the person has never lifted a single finger in the kitchen before this, and they calmly announce that they have baked a batch of organic breads, you might do well to stare and be suspicious. Oh, and reach for the roll of antacids as well!

Natural Organic Products

It’s not always easy to find natural organic products for the person who has already gone organic, so you can imagine what type of hurdle that might be for those who are still only looking to go organic. Many people, despite their good intentions, will balk at having to buy their weekly grocery supplies from a health food or specialty store.

Over and above the prohibitive cost you would more than likely incur, is the ingrained dislike of anything that is even remotely thought of as good for you. This naturally enough stems for our childhoods when “good” was almost literally shoved down our throats with the expectation that we would grow to like everything green and nasty tasting.

The funny thing is, that we do (to a very great extent – there are a few exceptions!), but we would still readily enough cut off our noses to spite our faces and stay from our good resolutions to buy natural organic products if we had to find our way through a health food store.

Buying our natural organic products from our normal grocery store or supermarket almost makes it seem like a natural (if you will excuse the pun) exercise in grocery shopping. Sure our monthly grocery bill would go up, but we would still have the satisfaction of knowing that we purchased our natural organic products not from a health food store!

However, all of that notwithstanding, when you go to buy your natural organic products be it at the health food store, or the grocer’s around the corner, there are a few things that you will want to look out for, and these involve the small matter of seals. Not the marine or the army variety, but the variety which involves a stamp or a certification of some sort.

The most commonly recognized of these seals is the USDA seal of organic certification. There are many such different seals for the numerous natural organic products, but it is best if you first learn about them. For instance even though an organic product might be USDA certified, it doesn’t necessarily have to have 100% of organic products contained within its packaging.

In fact, unless it specifically states on the packaging that you are buying a 100% Organic product, you will most likely be getting natural organic products which have only 95% of organic produce or even only a minimum of natural organic products contained within it.

As mentioned earlier, the easiest way to tell the difference is by carefully looking at the packaging of the natural organic products that you are buying. “100% Organic” will give you (not unnaturally enough) a hundred percent of organic produce in your products.

A simple “Organic”, will yield over 95% of organic products in your foods, and the very misleading “Made with Organic Products” will be the one to give you a minimum of only 70% of organic products found within the bounds of the packaging.

Onlne Organic Food

Although not as proliferate as some people might wish, organic foods are more readily available in more places than they used to be. Apart from the physical brick and mortar stores that you can go to, to shop for organic food, you will also find that there are many online organic food stores available as well.

These stores tend to deliver quality organic food to its customers, and the trick here is to find an online organic food store that you can trust. This can be a difficult process for many people who enjoy the prospect of buying and choosing their own foods, but it can’t be denied that online organic food stores do tend to get the job done when you don’t have time to do it yourself.

That’s why it’s always best to scout around and find a reputed online organic food retailer with whom you can place a rushed order and not have to think twice about whether or not you will get the best organic food. You will also find that if the online organic food store you went to is in your vicinity, there’s a chance that you will get free delivery thrown in as well.

And if this isn’t reason enough to go to an online organic food retailer to get your organic foods – even when you’re in a pinch – then you might want to take on the fact that most of the online organic food stores will have a wider selection of organic foods than you might normally be privy to in a health food store, a supermarket, or even a specialist store.

This is because the online organic food store doesn’t need to confine its stores to a physical warehouse or a storeroom. They have the ability to deal directly with the people who produce the organic goods, and in most instances you will find that this also translates itself into lower prices for you as well.

So over and above not having to physically go out and battle the tides of vehicular and human traffic to do your weekly grocery shopping, you will find that your weekly grocery shopping bill might also be reduced more than what you might expect to find. This isn’t a guarantee of course, and you will need to look around a bit to find an online organic food store that will literally fit your bill, but once you do, it might turn out to be the best thing that you could have done.

Organic Baby Food

It’s not everyday that you will come across a revolution in the making, but there you have it. From being nearly organically-ignorant twenty years ago, to being semi-organically-ignorant fifteen to ten years ago, the human race is now making direct contact with its grassroots and going back to being healthy and eating healthy. And not surprisingly this has also spread to such an extent that we now have organic baby food as well.

We have been privy to witness a revolution, a significant change in our history that ultimately comes down to whether we care about what we put in our bodies or not. Almost with the turn of the new millennium, more and more people started joining this revolution, and it wasn’t long before we could see organic foods coming out of their specialty and health food stores and moving to the normal everyday grocery and convenience stores.

And it definitely wasn’t long before new parents started making the transition for their babies as well. After all, if they were trying to eat organic, why not go the same route for their baby? The problem that many parents encountered in the beginnings years of the organic baby food revolution was the utter lack of premade organic baby food.

This meant that they either had to either make their own homemade organic baby food, or they had to give up on the idea, and allow their young babies to happily eat away at second hand toxins, pesticides, antibiotics, and genetically modified foods. Naturally enough this didn’t sit well with too many parents, but it is sad to say that this isn’t what turned the tide favorably in the organic baby food revolution.

No, this took some time, and more research still before mass production of organic baby food hit the markets in any significant numbers. Worse still, the price of getting organic baby food was just as bad as getting organic foods for yourself, and for your normal everyday family this was simply not an affordable alternative.

Although there is a growing trend towards buying organic baby food the problem still exists in that it is still not as readily available as it could be, and it still costs an arm and a leg to keep your baby in organic baby food.

Luckily with the tides turning more and more towards organic grassroots, there has also been a resurgence (a very small one for the moment) of making your own organic baby food. It’s not very difficult and in the long run, a few minutes spent in preparing your baby’s food in a healthy manner with organic foods can only be of benefit to your baby in the future.

Organic Food Bar

It’s healthy, it’s disgusting, and it might possibly be the hardest task on earth to get your kids to chow down on a snack bar made from organic foods. How easy is it to wean your children away from their potato chips, candy bars and chocolate coated everything’s? It’s a Herculean task and one that doesn’t become any easier when they see the sometimes disgusting organic bar food snack.

The last thing that you want your child to do is to ingest toxins and pesticides from non-organic bars, but unless you find a way to make the organic bar food snacks more palatable to their young stomachs, you will find that you have a rebellion on your hands, especially if you went and threw off all of their most favored junk foods!

This is almost definitely the wrong tack to with junk- and fast-food addicted children. The first step that you need to take is to introduce these foods slowly to their palates. You might be worried about the non-organic foods they’re consuming now, but remember that habits of a lifetime cannot be changed in the blink of an eye.

In essence you will need to retrain your children to eat healthy and this includes eating healthy snacks such as organic bar food snacks among other things. Take it in baby steps and proceed slowly and with caution. The first thing you need to do when going organic is to taste the snacks that you’re going to foist on your children.

If it looks green and disgusting even to your eyes, then it will almost definitely gain a negative response from your kids. If it looks marginally pleasing to the eye, and the ingredients in it sounds interesting, you will first of all want to have a sample go at it.

Remember that your adult palate might be different from your child’s palate so tread cautiously here. What you might like in the way of organic bar food and snacks, might not appeal to your kids but then again you might have hit the taste bud jackpot of all time and found the best junk food substitute for your kids.

And if you’re into health bar foods you might find an organic bar food that might suit your palate at the same time. Of course this is not everyone’s cup of tea, but by experimenting a little you might be able to find the perfect snack not only for your kids but also for yourself as well!

Organic Beauty Products

Organic beauty products. Who would have thought about it twenty, even ten years ago? Beauty products were beauty products and that was it. Sure there was some talk about all the “bad” things used in the literally hundreds of thousands of beauty to line the market shelves, but only the very hardcore enthusiasts of these things took much notice of these claims.

Everyone else stuck with their normal beauty routines, the consequences of using potentially harmful chemicals and the like on a daily basis, negligible in the face of looking like a hag to put it mildly. With the turn of the millennium however the tides have changed and the theme now most widely utilized is that of “natural”. Anything and everything natural is in, and this includes organic beauty products.

People are taking a keener interest in their health, what they put into their bellies, and what they put on their bodies. This means many people are turning towards more natural in just about every aspect of their lives, and in a regulated market such as the organic food market, this is all fine and good. But what happens when the mega-million dollar beauty products industry decides to go organic?

Mass consumer frenzy to go all natural, and get the latest in organic beauty products to hit the shelves. The problem here is not that there are organic beauty products, but that there isn’t a regulatory body to oversee what exactly “organic” constitutes when it comes to organic beauty products.

This isn’t to say that all beauty products labeled “organic” are fraudulent, only that some of these products don’t necessarily have more than a small fraction of dubiously labeled organic products, and yet these products too can take advantage of the entire health craze and call their products, organic beauty products. This is consumer deception at its worst, but there’s nothing that can be done about it at the moment.

With organic beauty products selling like hotcakes, it won’t be too long before someone calls a halt to this free-for-all in indiscriminate labeling. But until then it behooves us, the consumer to be wary of what exactly it is that we’re shelling out extra money for, because without a doubt we are paying more for products which are labeled as organic.

And while this is alright if the organic beauty products we buy are genuine, there really is no point in spending our hard earned cash on the same product we bought ten years ago without the organic labeling!

The key here is to be aware of what we’re buying and where we can likely go wrong. In the end however, when push comes to shove and the organics part of organic beauty products really does live up to its name, there will be no stopping the masses from buying something that is not only good for them but that also makes them look good.

Natural Organic Food

Natural organic food is not for everyone. There are many circumstances where even an individual who might like to go organic and eat only natural organic food and food products.  Sometimes the individual is at a loss as to how to go about this in an viable manner without going to the poor house.

The reason for this might seem self evident to some people, but the truth of the matter is that no matter how far organic food and food products have come down in cost, it is still bordering on the expensive, and most middle to low income families find it almost impossible to buy natural organic food on any kind of regular basis.

Therefore there has to be a driving force  behind their desire to buy natural organic food and the stumbling block of increased monthly outgoings. These factors vary from person to person and according to each personal situation.

For instance a middle income family with two teen aged kids and a toddler or baby might find that they have to make certain sacrifices to go organic. This can involve anything from cutting down on restaurant outings to cutting back on certain unwanted luxuries such as gourmet roasted coffee to redistributing the natural organic food chain within the family itself.

This can lead to mom and dad getting only a small percentage of organic foods, or none at all in their diets, with the bulk of the natural organic food and organic food products being purchased for their children.

This is of course in the cases where the benefits of organic foods have tipped the scales for parents, and where they want their children to consume less of pesticide and chemical fertilizer enriched food, and more of natural organic food.

It is also true that families without very young children, or one-person families, will also go to the extent of consuming natural organic food if the need is great enough or if they feel that it won’t significantly change their easy lifestyle.

The one thing that remains steady throughout is the desire of more and more people to add natural organic food and food products to their weekly grocery bill, despite the considerable dent it would put in their pockets. People are looking more and more at what they are consuming, and are taking more of an active interest in finding “natural” outlets for this.

It was into this niche that natural organic food and food products crept into and took hold. These days, the mantra on the lips of many people is, eat healthy and live healthy. The diet and fitness revolution is truly upon the world now, but it is being crowded to a corner by the natural organic food revolution which takes things that one step further.
